Azara microphylla
(Flacourtiaceae family) is a large shrub or tree and is
quite hardy as opposed to Azara serrata and Azara
dentata which benefit from some protection here. They
are from South America. A. microphylla has tiny non-showy flowers, but at
this time of year the vanilla scent is gorgeous. The variegated
form of this tree seems to be equally at home here.
