Commonly called the Polka
Dot plant, this plant carries the RHS Award of Garden Merit
(1993), unusual for a houseplant, but obviously many get planted
out in the summer. Two variations are shown in the above photograph
but there are many more. The inflorescence is a spike of magenta/lilac
flowers. The plant comes from Madagascar and is hardy only
down to 10°C. (Acanthaceae family)
