Phlomis
anisodonta
Boissier
Diagn. Pl. Or. Ser 1(5):37 (1844)
Distribution in the wild: Endemic to Iraq & Iran
anisodonta
means unevenly toothed.
An
attractive low growing perennial which gradually spreads.
Pink and white forms are in cultivation. Because of the
white form’s colour, I think some growers of one batch of
seed from Iran have called this plant P. cancellata,
but the plant in cultivation has much longer leaf petioles
than P. cancellata and much shorter calyx teeth (see
P. cancellata)
Herbaceous
perennial 3040 cm. Basal leaves green above, canescent
beneath, ovate to oblong-lanceolate with cuneate to truncate
base, lightly crenate at margin, 6-12 × 2-3 cm; petiole
1-2 cm. Three to four distant whorls per flower stem, many
flowered. Bracteoles subulate, hispid, ciliate. Calyx 12-14
mm, teeth unequal, short, ovate-triangular 2-3 mm, hispid
ciliate. Corolla rose-coloured.
